Ministry of Agriculture launches "Maldives Agribusiness Program"

The Ministry of Fisheries Marine Resources and Agriculture has launched an agriculture program called "Maldives Agribusiness Program (MAP)".

Ministry of Agriculture discloses that the program is a five year agriculture program, funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development.

The Ministry shares that the main objective of the program is to introduce environmentally friendly and sustainable farming methods to farmers using modern agricultural resources.

Additionally, the Ministry highlighted that the program is targeted to islands of North Thiladhunmathi Atoll, South Thiladhummathi Atoll and North Miladhummadulu Atoll. According to the Ministry, assistance will be provided to several islands in the north of the Maldives.

Ministry of Agriculture signed a MOU with Agro National Corporation on May 25, 2022, to conduct the program.

Under the agreement, the MAP project will provide sustainable farming facilities at and affordable prices to farmers in 26 islands of three northern atolls with the support climate resilient agriculture systems and innovative technology for farmers in the Maldives.

In addition the Ministry and Agro National Corporation will also conduct training programs for farmers.
