The council of Faresmaathoda island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll is grateful for the development projects initiated in the island under the incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

As part of his brief visit to the island to attend the festivities to commemorate the 42nd National Fishermen’s Day on Sunday, President Solih met the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC).

The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Faresmaathoda island council and saw the councilors expressing gratitude for the development projects initiated by the current administration.

Concerns and pertinent needs of the island community were also shared with the president.

Discussions also revolved around space constraints at the council secretariat, the need for banking services, the development of a road connecting the airport and the harbor as well as waste management.

The councilors also shed light on the support of government offices and state institutions to the needs of the island community.

President Solih expressed gratitude to the island community for the warm welcomed accorded to him and shed light on the significance of the fisheries sector for the region.

He also assured that the administration remains committed to equitable development in consultation with the people.

The president went on to assure that the administration will take steps to find agreeable solutions to the concerns raised at the meeting.
