The main-ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s Parliamentary Group is preparing for the move to dismiss Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem.
The no-confidence motion was submitted during a meeting convened on Wednesday, initially held to make a decision on dismissing High Court Judge Abdulla Hameed.
MDP PG had on Wednesday decided to hold a separate meeting to take a decision on the move to dismiss Shameem.
The no-confidence motion was submitted by parliamentarians accusing PG Shameem of conducting wrongdoings in implementing the law.
A majority of parliamentarians have backed the move to dismiss PG Shameem from his position.
The People’s Majlis approved Shameem’s appointment as PG on 7 December 2019.
74 parliamentarians voted in favor of Shameem’s appointment.
