President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has held discussions with the council members of Maabaidhoo Island in the Laamu Atoll, regarding the development plans of the island.
President Solih met with the council members of Maabaidhoo on Sunday, at the President's Office.
During the meeting, President Solih and the council members held extensive discussions on the island’s developmental plans, and the council members briefed the President about their developmental work.
Additionally, the council members shared the concerns of their constituents with the President. They shared the issues the island community is facing. As such, the President was informed about the coastal erosion problem faced by the island and the constraints faced by the island school, as well as the issues related to the project to develop an ice plant in the island.
The members raised concerns regarding the challenges they have to face to introduce local tourism. They shared the need to introduce a police presence in the island and the challenges faced due to the aging state of the council building currently being used.
In addition, members of the council requested the President to expand the scope of the ongoing water and sewerage network project to include new land plots.
President Solih shared the latest updates on the island’s developmental plans and assured the council members that the administration would welcome their input on the plans and ongoing projects. He noted that funds had been earmarked in the budget to carry out coastal protection work on the island and assured the council members that the administration would make efforts to address the challenges facing the school.
He assured the council members that the administration would work towards addressing the concerns raised at the meeting.
