Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Abdulla Shahid has urged the Muslim Ummah to pray to receive forgiveness from all those they have hurt with their actions and words, this month of Ramadan, which has now come to an end.
He made this remark in a sermon delivered during the Friday prayers at the United Nations, which was led by the Maldivian minister.
The PGA in a Tweet posted on Friday night, expressed honor in having delivered the sermon and led Friday prayers at the UN, and revealed that “respect for our common humanity and each other, importance of mercy and compassion, learning from the life and actions of our beloved Prophet (SAW)”.
In his sermon, the PGA revealed that a Muslim who believes in almighty Allah who is the giver of peace, and seeks peace and safety in their life will make “every” effort to ensure that those around them are at “ease”.
Stressing that one cannot seek peace from the almighty Allah while invading the rights of others and hurting their feelings, PGA Shahid asserted that those who do so are simply serving their own desires and self-interest.
With this being said, PGA Shahid noted how such people will not find serenity or safety in this world, or in the hereafter.
Highlighting that Ramadan is a time to train the tongues of Muslims to refrain from slander, PGA Shahid stated that it is rather a time to think of others as well as the consequences of one’s actions.
Let us learn, let us pray that this Ramazan, we receive forgiveness from all those who we have hurt with our actions and our words.”Abdulla Shahid, PGA.![]()
Expressing hope that efforts by the Muslim Ummah to spread peace and love among others are rewarded with a place in heaven, the PGA quoted the Messenger of Allah, (PBUH).
You will not enter Paradise until you have faith, and you will not have faith until you love each other. Shall I show you something that, if you did, you would love each other? Spread peace between yourselves”Hadith narrated by Imam Muslim.![]()
PGA Shahid went on to implore almighty Allah to soften the hearts of Muslims so that they may find in their hearts the mercy and compassion for others, that was taught by the Prophet (PBUH).
With this he recited a prayer, for the almighty Allah to forgive Muslims for their flaws and adorn their hearts with mercy, peace and compassion.
