Body of the Bangladeshi man who was stabbed to death at Khanji Restaurant, in Hulhumale’, has been sent to his home country.

The victim, identified as MD Shameem, was working as a waiter at Khanji Restauran, when he was reportedly stabbed to death by a Pakistani Chef, Muhammad Abid, who was also working at the same restaurant.

The victim's body was sent to his home country on April 21, according to the Maldives Police Service.

The incident happened around 08:44pm on April 16, 2022. A team of police officers was dispatched to the scene shortly after the report was received and the injured Bangladeshi man was rushed to the hospital immediately. However, he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hulhumale' Hospital.

Abid the suspected killer, ran into hiding after the incident, was found and apprehended by police early Sunday morning,  after a long search.

He was found in Hulhumale' Phase two beach area, a long distance away from the crime spot.

Murder of the young Bangladeshi waiter prompted concerned nationals of Bangladesh to gather outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Male' City, urging for the suspect’s swift arrest and expressing concern over the lack of a statement from the High Commission in response to the murder.

The case is being investigated by the Serious and Organized Crime Department of Maldives Police Service and the authority has assured that the case was being investigated “with the utmost diligence”.
