Maldives Police Service has arrested the Pakistani man, wanted in the suspected murder of the Bangladeshi waiter at a restaurant in Hulhumale'.
The incident happened around 08:44pm Saturday , and Police revealed that they were looking for Muhammad Abid, 26-year-old Pakistani national, in suspected homicide. Abid who ran into hiding after the incident, was found and apprehended by police early Sunday morning, after a long manhunt.
He was found in Hulhumale' Phase two beach area, a long distance away from the crime spot .
Maldives Police Service received information of the assault with a sharp weapon inside Khanji restaurant in Hulhumalé on Saturday evening.
A team of police officers was dispatched to the scene shortly after the report was received and the injured Bangladeshi man was rushed to the hospital immediately. However, he was pronounced dead a short while after he was taken- in for treatment.
Murder of the young Bangladeshi waiter prompted concerned nationals of Bangladesh to gather outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Male' City, urging for the suspect’s swift arrest and expressing concern over the lack of a statement from the High Commission in response to the murder.
The case is being investigated by the Serious and Organized Crime Department of Maldives Police Service and the authority has assured that the case was being investigated “with the utmost diligence”.
