The First Couple has concluded their tour of southernmost Addu and Fuvahmulah cities.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed concluded their four-day visit to the southernmost cities on Monday.
They led a delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior officials of the government during the trip, which was also joined by India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
At the beginning of the tour, the First Couple hosted a traditional feast 'Maahefun' to commemorate the upcoming fasting month of Ramadan 1443.
During the gatherings, President Solih shared details of development projects planned for the cities and also met with the city councils and Women’s Development Committee (WDC)s of both cities, where discussions revolved around the most pressing needs and issue facing the communities.
Further, the National College of Policing and Law Enforcement was inaugurated in Addu on Sunday.
The facility is equipped with the latest technology and resources required to conduct trainings that would be in line with democratic principles and international best practices.
Taking the podium at the event, the president noted that the facility will play a pivotal role in the development of the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
The trip also saw the inauguration of harbors in Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo and Meedhoo districts of Addu.
The work on the biggest ever road development project to be conducted in Addu was also launched during the trip. The project includes a storm water drainage system.
A ceremony was also officiated by the president during the visit, in which an agreement was signed to reclaim 194.3 hectares of land under the Addu City Reclamation Project.
First Lady Fazna also inaugurated a new building with 12 classrooms in Maradhoo School.
In addition to this, the first couple also assessed the progress of government-initiated development projects. They also toured institutions and government offices to inquire about the services offered in Fuvahmulah and Addu cities.
