A dead body has been discovered from the sea, near Maafushi Prison.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that they received information regarding a dead body afloat near the prison complex region at around 02:22am on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as a 33-year-old Maldivian man.
The police institution further cited the island’s health center having reported that the man was already dead when he was taken to the center.
Maldives Corrections Service (MCS) revealed that the man was suspected to have attempted to smuggle contraband into the prison complex, to no avail.
The contraband the man had attempted to smuggle into the prison complex have since been handed over to the police.
Further investigations are currently underway.
