President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged the people to renew their resolve to break the bias against women.
In a message to the people shared on Twitter to commemorate the International Women’s Day, marked annually on March 8, the President noted that the people must renew their resolve to break the bias.
As such, he noted that the country joins hands in celebrating the “countless” contributions made by women to the progress of communities nationwide.
The President’s tweet also reads that although positive strides have been made, the world is far from being free of bias and discrimination against women.
With this being said, he urged to renew the people’s resolve to break the bias against women.
At a time the country is celebrating its courageous and brave women, the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services had also issued a publication, shedding light on some of the important things to keep in mind while celebrating the day.
As such, a letter addressed to state institutions and government offices by the ministry shed light on some of the important things to keep in mind to host activities to celebrate Women’s Day. Some of these include gifting flower bouquets, roses, candy and even laying red carpet to welcome women.
The Ministry revealed that such ways of celebration is against the “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” policy.
