President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced plans to conduct a housing project in Kurendhoo Island of Lhaviyani Atoll, in a bid to address the island community’s housing needs.

As part of his recent six-island tour of the atoll, the president sat down with members of the island council, Women's Development Committee (WDC), and residents as well as community leaders.

Shedding light on the development needs of the community, the councilors and WDC members stressed the need to improve healthcare services, build additional classrooms at the school, and road development.

The president was also briefed on the concerns revolving around harbor utilization and also noted the need for a building for the council secretariat as well as requirements of the youth, including upgrading the football stadium and developing a youth center.

In his meeting with the community leaders the president stated that his administration’s development projects aim at achieving the deliverables sought by the people and that he values the participation and views of the people, adding that the administration will look into solutions to remedy the concerns raised at the meeting.

The president also briefed the island residents on his development plans for the island, such as initiating a housing project, looking into solutions to resolve the concerns raised at the meeting, renovating the football grounds which have been left damaged in the wake of tidal surges as well as developing additional facilities, including stands and changing rooms.

The government also plans to develop a beach area as part of the coastal protection project, to make the new powerhouse developed by FENAKA Corporation operational soon, road development work and to complete the water and sewerage network project.

The president expressed commitment to expedite ongoing projects.

On his visit to Kurendhoo, the president also visited the health center and held discussions with the management and staff.
