Maldives has confirmed the 13th Covid-19 fatality of February.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 81-year-old Maldivian woman.
Doctors at ADK Hospital pronounced her dead at around 04:20pm on Sunday.
This has pushed the country’s Covid-19 death toll to 289 and comes a day after the last victim was reported; a 72-year-old Maldivian man who was receiving treatment at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility before succumbing to complications of Covid-19 on Saturday afternoon.
The total number of Covid-19 fatalities reported this year has been pushed to 27; 14 victims were confirmed in January.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
