The second phase of the project to construct the harbor of Himmafushi island in Kaafu atoll, is well underway.
Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) revealed that the second shipment of pre-cast concrete blocks required for the quay wall construction, were delivered to the project site on February 4.
MTCC further revealed that the new harbor basin dredging component are ongoing and at 99 percent progression.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC is contracted to dredge and excavate 14,300 cubic meters for the new harbor basic, construct a breakwater measuring 38 meters and a revetment measuring 248 meters.
Further, the company is also contracted to build a 172-meter quay wall and install navigational aids.
The project, contracted to the company by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure in December 2019, is valued at MVR 25.88 million.
Expected to be completed in a year, the project was mobilized on 1 March 2021.
