A foreigner has succumbed to complications of Covid-19, in the Maldives.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that deceased is a 73-year-old Sri Lankan man who was receiving treatment at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility. He was pronounced dead by doctors at around 03:04am on Tuesday.
This comes less than 24 hours since the latest victims were reported; a 95-year-old who succumbed to complications of the virus at 6:17pm on Monday and a 74-year-old local at around 6:51am on Tuesday while receiving treatment at the same facility.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 278.
16 Covid-19 fatalities have been reported so far this year; 14 in January and two in February.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
