Active Covid-19 cases across Kulhudhuffushi City have risen to 148.

According to the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, 21 new infections and eight additional recoveries were reported by sundown on Monday.

Due to an alarming surge in the coronavirus caseload across Haa Dhaal atoll, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) has enforced monitoring measures across four islands in the atoll so far; Hanimaadhoo, Nolhivaranfaru and Nellaidhoo in addition to the atoll capital.

HPA went on to reveal that monitoring measures have also been enforced across Ihavandhoo island in Haa Alif atoll and Funadhoo island in Shaviyani atoll.

The hospital revealed that although cases have been spiraling of recent, complications and severities have not been reported from patients so far.

However, public health authorities continue to urge the public to practice caution as a majority of samples collected nationwide are testing positive to the virus.

This comes at a time the Maldives is immersed in an outbreak of the more transmissible variant of Covid-19; Omicron.
