President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has tested positive for Covid-19.

In a Twitter post, PGA Shahid revealed that he is experiencing mild symptoms and revealed that he was privileged to have been fully vaccinated. PGA Shahid had also received a booster dose against coronavirus.

The Maldivian foreign minister is currently in home isolation in New York, in accordance to medical advice.

The UNGA President took the opportunity to shed light on the importance of vaccination to stop the virus from spreading.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed that the foreign minister had “limited” public engagements in the past few days.

Those who were in close contact with him at the United Nations have been advices accordingly, said the ministry.
