Maldives Police Service (MPS) has disallowed opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) from holding its float parade rally, organized for Friday evening.

In a press release issued on Friday evening, the police institution revealed that they had received reports of the rally being held to create chaos among the public.

With this, the police revealed that they would not allow any party to create chaos within the community, as it is the institution’s responsibility to ensure peace, harmony and security to the public.

The opposition party organized the float parade for Friday evening, under its “India Out!” campaign.

Since the Supreme Court in November overturned the five-year prison sentence slapped on Former President Abdulla Yameen, who was found guilty of money laundering in 2019 and released him from prison, the opposition party has been hosting rallies every Friday.
