The fifth Amendment to the Sea Vessels Act has been ratified.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih ratified the amendment on Monday, upon which it has been publicized in the government gazette and comes into immediate effect.

The bill on the amendment to the act ((No. 30/2021) was passed by the People’s Majlis at the 44th sitting of its third session of the ongoing year on November 29.

This mandates the drafting or amendment of regulations linked to the amendment to be publicized in the government gazette within six months of ratification.

Section 5 – 1, pursuant to Section 5 of the act have been introduced with the ratification, which specifies the delegation to respective administrative divisions of islands, atolls, and cities, specified services provided by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.

Further, it adds that the ministry and relevant institutions are required to provide funds, resources and assistance needed by the local councils to provide the specified services.

The amendment stated that the regulations established must also specify the manner in which the assistance will be provided.
