Another local has succumbed to complications of Covid-19, less than 24 hours after the last Covid-19 fatality was reported in the Maldives.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as a 79-year-old Maldivian man who was receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility. Doctors pronounced him dead at 9:30pm, Sunday.

The last Covid-19 victim was identified as a 77-year-old local woman who was receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Medical Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors at around 6:29am on Sunday.

Of the 255 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 205 have been reported so far this year.

The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November
