With the confirmation of two more Covid-19 victims, the country’s coronavirus death toll has risen to 253.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirmed the death of two Maldivian men on Saturday morning.
The first victim was identified as a 93-year-old receiving treatment at the Kudahuvadhoo Atoll Hospital in Dhaalu atoll, before being pronounced dead by doctors at 7:10am.
A little over an hour later, HPA confirmed the death of a 92-year-old Covid-19 patient from Thuraakunu island in Haa Alif atoll.
This come just a few days after the first Covid-19 victim of December was reported with the death of a 79-year-old Maldivian woman in Fuvahmulah Covid Management Facility.
Three Covid-19 fatalities have been confirmed so far in December.
Of the 253 deaths linked to coronavirus reported in the Maldives so far, 203 have been reported so far this year.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
