Toddler drowns off Guraidhoo island

A toddler has drowned in Guraidhoo island of Kaafu atoll.
Guraidhoo Council’s President Hussain Yameen told RaajjeMV that the incident was reported at around 1:30pm on Saturday.
The victim of the drowning incident has been identified as a two-year-old.
Yameen revealed that the child went missing after being fed by her mother, who had gone inside the house to wash and put away the plate. The house is located by the beach.
When the mother returned, the toddler was nowhere in sight.
After about 15 minutes of searching, the toddler was found afloat in the waters on the north side of the island.
Her body was found by a Jet ski operator from Guraidhoo Water Sports.
The child was already dead when she was brought to the island’s Health Center.
Her funeral rites are to take place after Maghrib.
