Maldives has reported the 234th Covid-19 fatality.

The deceased has been identified as a 72-year-old Maldivian woman.

Doctors at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility pronounced her dead at around 10:57am on Saturday.

This comes a day after Maldives reported the second Covid-19 victim of October, when a 97-year-old local man died while receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility on Friday morning.

Saturday’s victim is the third fatality to have been reported this ongoing month.

Of the 234 deaths linked to coronavirus, 184 have been reported thus far in 2021.

The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus. September saw five deaths linked to coronavirus.
