Maldives Police Service (MPS) has launched an investigation into an arson attempt made on a parliamentarian’s residence.
The arson attempt was made on the residence of MP for north-Hithadhoo constituency, Mohamed Aslam’s spouse.
Police revealed that the residence is located near Sharafudeen School in Hithadhoo and that they received reports of the arson attempt on Wednesday morning.
A resident from the island told RaajjeMV that the arson attempt took place on Tuesday night, and that the fire did not catch on due to the rain. The culprits are to have doused petrol on the door and windows of the house, before setting it on fire.
This comes at a time there have been recent reports that south-Hithadhoo constituency MP Ibrahim Nazil had sexually harassed MP Aslam.
The case was submitted to the Majlis Secretariat by MP for south-Henveiru constituency Hussain Shameem.
