Another Maldivian has succumbed to complications of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 80-year-old man.
Doctors at the Covid Management Facility in Shaviyani atoll pronounced him dead at 2:30pm on Saturday.
With this, the total number of fatalities linked to coronavirus in the Maldives has risen to 231.
The last Covid-19 victim was identified as a 46-year-old Maldivian woman who died while receiving treatment at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility, in the early hours of Friday.
This is the fifth death to have been reported this ongoing month.
Of the 231 deaths linked to coronavirus, 181 have been reported thus far in 2021.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
