Family of the Maldivian brutally slain in Italy, has revealed that efforts are underway to bring his body back to Maldives.

Mahmood Imad, native to Nolhivaranfaru island in Haa Dhaal atoll, was found hanged in his residence, it is believed that he was tortured before he was hanged. His body was discovered by his mother-in-law. No official authorities have confirmed the details yet.

The family revealed that they do not suspect anyone regarding the murder, and that they are yet to receive any official details regarding any torture he might have gone through.

Further, the family is working to verify this information with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry is closely monitoring the case after receiving reports of the gruesome murder. The authority has assured that they are monitoring the murder, closely and providing the required support and assistance to the murder victim’s family.

Imad was residing in Italy and was married to an Italian native, who is believed to have been living in Nolhivaranfaru island along with her father, at the time of her spouse's murder.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) is yet to provide any details regarding the matter.
