Another Maldivian has succumbed to complications of Covid-19.
On Thursday, Health Protection Agency (HPA) reported the death of an 89-year-old man.
Doctors at the Covid Management Facility in Gaaf Dhaal atoll pronounced the Covid-19 patient dead at 4:52pm, Thursday.
This is the second fatality linked to Covid-19 reported this ongoing month.
This has pushed the total number of deaths Maldives has confirmed from coronavirus so far, to 228.
This comes a little over a week after Maldives confirmed the latest fatality, when an 80-year-old Maldivian man being treated for the fatal infection at Hulhumalé Medical Facility succumbed to the virus.
Of the 228 deaths linked to coronavirus, 178 have been reported thus far in 2021.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus.
Maldives reported its first Covid-19 fatality in April 2020.
