No room to say pledges are unfulfilled, the term is still ongoing: MP Shaheem
He said this while countering a statement by Ibrahim Rasheed about the ‘unfulfilled pledges about housing’.
Engineering procurement contracts for 4,000 housing units have been signed.
The incumbent administration is putting all effort to ensure housing.

Hussain Shaheem has stated that the tenure of the incumbent administration, which began in 2018, has not yet ended, therefore there is no room to say that electoral pledges have not been fulfilled.

During Wednesday’s parliament sitting, the central-Maafannu constituency MP, Ibrahim Rasheed presented issues regarding housing. Speaking on the matter, he stated that the pledge to facilitate housing for all remains unfulfilled.

Countering the statement, MP for south-Henveiru constituency, Shaheem revealed that the incumbent administration continues its efforts to facilitate housing, noting that engineering procurement contracts for 4,000 housing units have already been signed. As well as this, a loan agreement is scheduled for signing next week, and in a few months the government will sign for around 2,000 housing units.

Further, the lawmaker noted that material efforts are ongoing for the agreements signed for over 500 housing units in collaboration with smaller companies and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on the topic of housing for all in the Maldives had earlier stated that plots of land will be given to citizens from Hulhumale' in order to bring a solution to the issue of housing.

Hussain Shameem also said that it was informed that land reclamation in some areas of the capital Male' region will also take place, the work for which will be mobilized as soon as possible.

He further stated that any MP would have the capacity to clear this information, and that speaking on the matter in a misleading way in order to confuse the citizens, was saddening.
