President Solih provided the members on an update on the work the government has done in compiling the Industrial Relations Bill

Maldives Trade Union Congress (MTUC) has urged the government to implement a swift ratification of a law on industrial relations.

Calling on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday, members of the association which represents different labor rights associations, briefed the president on the challenges and concerns posed for the country’s labor and employment sector.

Sitting down with the members, President Solih listened to their concerns from the workforces of the fisheries, education, health as well as tourism sectors presented by MTUC members, who also touched down on labor force rights in these sectors.

The association’s members went on to stress on the importance of ratifying a law on industrial relations “as soon as possible”, specifically since It was one of the incumbent administration’s presidential pledges.

Speaking about the drafted Industrial Relations Bill, composed in 2013 with the technical input of the International Labor Relations (ILO), the association’s members revealed that it would bring a solution to a number of challenges facing the country’s workforce, in all sectors.

President Solih provided the members on an update on the work the government has done in compiling the Industrial Relations Bill.

The president noted that the bill will be finalized and sent for parliamentary review after bringing the required amendments, once discussions are held with relevant authorities and institutions.

President Solih went on to address the concerns raised by the members and assured that the government will resolve said issues.
