Ruling coalition manifesto
Ruling coalition manifesto doesn't mention bringing a parliamentary system, says Mabrook
The system of the Maldives will be decided by citizens.
This was first mentioned in the Jazeera manifesto by MDP.
Mabrook said that President Solih is in favor of hearing citizens out in changing the system.

The President’s Spokesperson, Mabrook Azeez has stated that the manifesto made by the ruling coalition parties mention nothing about changing to a parliamentary system.

During the press conference held by the President’s Office, Spokesperson Mabrook Azeez stated that the idea of changing the country’s system to a parliamentary ruling was first mentioned in the Jazeera manifesto by MDP. However, it was not mentioned in the ruling coalition's manifesto.

This comes at a time the main ruling party is preparing to submit a petition calling on the incumbent president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to implement pledge to change the system.

He went on to say that President Solih is fully in favor of hearing citizens out regarding this decision, through a petition.

Further, Former President of the Maldives, and current speaker of parliament, Mohamed Nasheed has said that the best way for any nation around the world to effectively function as one, is to operate under a parliamentary system, and that he would remain steadfast in this belief.

Some members of MDP have already begun signing the petition.

Speaker Nasheed stated that the parliamentary system is not something unfamiliar to Maldivian citizens, and that this system suits this nation the best. He added that the current system was only recently introduced and that the country previously operated under the parliamentary system.

Speaker Nasheed has so far been very vocal about his views on the parliamentary system, voicing his approval of its implementation in Maldives.

However, it has been made clear by the president, that a decision of this nature should be taken by Maldivian citizens.

The speaker has also revealed that he will support candidates running for the MDP Internal Elections, who support parliamentary governance.
