The project to complete 36 housing units in Th. Vilufushi has been contracted to AMIN Constructions Pvt. Ltd.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure informed that this project was first initiated by the Noomadi company, back in 2011. However, the project came to sudden halt in 2014 and out of the 200 housing units that were supposed to be built, only 64 were completed.

This project was financed from the 2021 budget of the Public Sector Investment Program (PSIP) and is to conclude within 240 days. The contract worth MVR 82,138,268.57 was signed by the Director General of the Housing Department of the Planning Ministry, Ahmed Vishaan Naseem and the Managing Director of AMIN Constructions, Abdulla Mohamed.

As this project was handed over to AMIN Constructions, the former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Aminath Athifa was present at the Parliament to clarify doubts about the project.

While answering a question by Vilufushi Constituency MP, Hassan Afeef, in regards to the complains put forth by locals, Athifa informed that the design of the housing units is the same as all others established by the Government and affirmed that the ministry had not received any complains directly from locals.

However, Athifa recognized that no changes can be brought to the design anymore, considering the budget, but she stated that alterations can be brought to the designs of the housing projects developed in the future.
