The foreigner who attacked a Maldivian taxi driver in the capital's suburban district Hulhumale’ on Monday night, has been arrested.

Police confirmed the arrest of 25-year-old foreigner, a man, in relation to the attack. While eyewitnesses report that the man was intoxicated at the time of the attack, police have not confirmed this.

RaajjeMV understands that the attacker is an Indian national.

Eyewitnesses told RaajjeMV that the attacker had attempted to strangle the local driver, with his own shirt. The driver is to then have lost control and crashed the car in to parked vehicles. The incident took place on the 19th block on Nirolhu Magu.

According to reports, the violence started after the driver asked for the taxi fare from the customer he picked up from Hulhule' Island Hotel (HIH). He is to have claimed to not have any money and proceeded to attack the driver.
