Fuvahmulah City Council has announced that all issues related to the sewerage system within the city will be resolved in September.
While speaking on RaajjeTV’s ‘Fala Surukhee’ programme, Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq stated that the locals have been facing many difficulties due to the malfunctions of the city’s sewerage system and informed that the locals have constantly been complaining about this issue since the day the sewerage system was established.
The mayor highlighted that 70 percent of sewerage pipes built in the city leak everyday and need to be cleaned. He further noted that this was supposed to be fixed before tarmac was added to the roads.
According to the mayor, the main cause of sewerage issues roots from rushing the work done on the system and not monitoring it. He also stated that the tools and equipment used to build the system was not of good quality and noted the problems faced in the joints of the sewerage and water system.
Fuvahmulah City's sewerage system project began on September 14th 2018 and MVR 300 million was invested in the project.
This project was handed over to Fenaka Corporation Limited and they announced in March that they would solve all issues in relation to the matter in six months’ time. It is to be noted that the company has already begun their work. Earlier this week, Fenaka MD Ahmed Saeed said that they were working on long-term solutions for the residents of Fuvahmulah.
