Maldives Covid-19 case tally has been pushed to 76,953 with over 100 new infections reported on Tuesday.

According to the latest statistics publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 105 new infections were confirmed from the 5,424 samples tested between 6pm Monday and 6pm Tuesday.

Majority of daily new infections have been confirmed from outlying atolls over the past few weeks, with 68 of the over 100 being confirmed from residential islands on Tuesday as well. Of the remaining cases, 22 were detected in the Greater Malé Region, deemed the Covid-19 epicenter of Maldives, and 15 were confirmed from operational resorts.

With this, the island nation’s active coronavirus case tally rose to 2,611 from 2,597.

In addition, HPA reported 90 additional Covid-19 patients to have made full recoveries over the past 24 hours, meaning that the total number of recoveries observed across the country has risen to 74,110.

Three Covid-19 patients hospitalized for treatment over the past 24 hours has increased the number of hospital admissions to 16.

The country's death toll from Covid-19 stands at 220 with the last one reported on Tuesday.

The Covid-19 caseload began spiking in the beginning of May once again, not long after Maldives was able to control a spike in cases into the beginning of the year. The fourth wave was confirmed after authorities lifted the measures in place in time for the fasting month of Ramadan 1442 as well as the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections held in mid-April.

This prompted authorities to strengthen safety measures and restrictions across the nation. However in early July a number of these measures were eased in time for Eid-Al-Adha and Independence Day holidays.

Maldives remains in a state of public health emergency since 12 March 2020 which was last extended to expire on 2 August.
