Maldives reported 81 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, from 4,863 samples tested, with a majority of the cases being reported in outlying atolls.
According to the latest information publicized by Health Protection Agency (HPA), 20 cases were reported in the Greater Male Area, 17 from operational resorts, and 44 from outlying atolls. While the Male' area was described as the Covid-19 epicenter, atolls have been reporting the highest daily numbers since June.
This pushes the Maldives' Covid-19 case count to 76,627, with 2,601 active cases.
Furthermore, with the 85 additional recoveries reported on Saturday a total of 73,795 patients have recovered from Covid-19. There have been 219 deaths, with the latest one reported on Friday.
An additional seven individuals have also been hospitalized for further treatment, therefore, 18 people are currently receiving care at facilities.
Following the outbreak of Covid-19 cases back in May, which was identified as the fourth wave, restrictions were strengthened all over Maldives. However, with the steady decrease in overall cases, these restrictions were eased in time for Eid-al-Adha and Independence Day holidays.
Maldives remains in a state of public health emergency since 12 March 2020 which was last extended to expire on 2 August.
