Namibian man caught with bullets deported from Maldives, permanently
 
The 60-year-old was arrested on July 10 as he was about to depart from the Maldives
 
Maldives Immigration noted that his actions posed a threat to national security
 
Police have not disclosed any details in the case including why he was deported and not charged

The tourist arrested at Velana International Airport (VIA) after bullets were discovered in his luggage, has been deported from the Maldives permanently.

Maldives Immigration said that the 60-year-old Namibian man was deported on Tuesday, as his actions posed a threat to national security. He is to never enter the country again.

While the manwas arrested as he was attempting to leave the country, police is yet to reveal any details in the matter including whether the tourist had smuggled in the bullets or was trying to export them.

They also have yet to reveal the type and number of bullets the tourist was carrying.

While he was arrested on July 10 as he was about to depart from the Maldives, he was initially given a three-day remand which was later extended by four days.

Possession of firearms, explosives, weapons, and ammunition is prohibited in the Maldives. It is illegal to import these items as well.
