Over 255,000 people have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in the Maldives.

As per the latest updates posted by Health Protection Agency (HPA), the second dose vaccination numbers continue to decrease since Tuesday. On Thursday only 4,048 people received their second dose which is 343 people less than Wednesday. This included 1,671 people from the Greater Male’ area and 2,337 people from atolls.

However, the number of individuals who received their first shot increased compared to Wednesday, with 398 people being vaccinated on Thursday. This Included 280 people from Male’ and 118 people from inhabited islands.

As of now, the total number of people who received a first dose stands at 320,457 and the total number of people who received both doses stand at 255,280.

The Covid-19 Vaccination Drive was launched on February 1st, but came to a sudden stop as the coronavirus situation in India worsened in May, making it impossible for them to ship supplies to the Maldives. However, HPA recently announced that appointments are now open to those who received their first shot of the Covishield vaccine as it has been restocked.

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC), announced on Wednesday, that 17th July onwards, the Covid-19 vaccination programme will be taking a break for the upcoming Eid-al-Adha and Independence Day holidays. While the service is to officially resume after July 30, emergency vaccinations will be ongoing during the period.

HEOC earlier this week reported that 50 percent of the Maldivian population is now fully vaccinated against coronavirus.
