Under the "Covid-19 Dhifaau" inoculation drive, 23 additional vaccine doses have been administered.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Monday that 23 additional vaccination doses were administered between February 19 and February 25.

During the reporting period, HPA provided two initial doses, six second doses, six booster shots, and nine second booster doses as part of the "Covid-19 Dhifaau" vaccination effort.

With this development, the total number of first doses provided nationwide has climbed to 399,191. Additionally, 385,1028 people have completed both doses so far.

This development brings the total number of booster doses provided throughout the Maldives to 167,651.

So far, 0.34 percent of the eligible population have received two booster doses, the total sitting at 1,533.

Of the eligible population to receive vaccine doses in the Maldives, 88.16 percent have completed the first dose, while 85.05 percent have completed both doses and 37.03 percent have received booster doses.

The incumbent administration launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on 1 February 2021.

Those seeking vaccination must bring their ID cards or an official document for identification, wear loose clothing with easy access to their shoulders, and arrive after a full lunch. They must not be symptomatic or quarantined.

The administration initially announced the decision to give Covid-19 booster doses to immunocompromised people, seniors, and frontline employees. The Maldives Technical Advisory Group on Immunization recommended that frontline workers and individuals at high risk of Covid-19 problems receive booster shots after receiving both doses of Covid-19 vaccination. Nonetheless, it was later opened to all members of the general public.

HPA discovered that vaccination provides decreasing immunity with time and that a booster dose is required to boost immunity after six months, as it boosts protection against infection and severe sickness.

The public has been asked to get their vaccine doses in order to help prevent virus complications.
