Ex-President Mohamed Nasheed has revealed that, due to differing beliefs and ideas, he does not have any plans to politically collaborate with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Mohamed Nasheed states that he would, however integrate ideas with ex-president Abdulla Yameen on a political basis. This has been communicated with certain officials of MDP as well. Nevertheless, the statement has been met with vehement disagreement from some members of MDP, to which Nasheed proclaims that he may choose to go through with the decision regardless.

Nasheed has also stated that there are no grudges regarding the refusal to politically integrate, between the president and himself, as it is only an issue of contrary principles.

In light of this, Tourism Minister Mausoom says that president Solih is an individual with a strong grasp on the concept of democracy, and is a leader who is aware of proper implementation of democracy.

In a tweet by Minister Mausoom, he mentions that such comparisons and siding this early, two years and two months prior to the actual presidential election, will stir up the situation extremely early on. As well as this, he says that Solih’s focus is fully emphasized on his political manifesto’s pledges. This alone, Minister Mausoom holds, is a clear sign that president Solih is a president with a solid grasp on the perception of democracy, therefore being an example of someone who knows how to contrivance the concept of it.

Conversely, former vice president and advisor for the opposing coalition, Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, applauds Mohamed Nasheed for his decision to not work with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on a political basis, and for implying that he is prepared to take into consideration, working with Abdulla Yameen.

Further, speaker Nasheed states that MDP is desperately in need of a new union. This was said considering the outpour of vehement disagreements caused by his implication of wanting to work with Abdulla Yameen and PPM.

Nasheed goes ahead to explain the Maldives must not fall into the hands of extremism, and now more than ever requires the propositions of an entity such as PPM which, according to him, practices moderate, non-extremist beliefs
