Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has stated that Maldivians, nor foreigners have to bear expenses in relation to Covid-19.
IGMH announced this after a tweet that was going around that revealed that IGMH had pardoned a bill of a foreigner who had been admitted due to Covid-19. Some medias reported that the bill that was excused, charged MVR 300,000 and involved a Bangladeshi woman and her baby that had to be delivered after only six months of pregnancy.
Treatment related to Covid-19 are to go on without discrimination between Maldivians and expatriates. Therefore, even the vaccine is being administered by the government to foreigners without any charge as it is administered to locals.
IGMH has taken the lead role when it came to treating Covid-19 patients. Hence, Dharumavantha Hospital has been prepped to treat severely ill patients, ICU patients and patients that require a ventilator since day one. Moreover, the largest sample of Covid-19 is being tested in the IGMH laboratory.
