The island council has revealed that the community had extended immense support in following through the restrictions in the face of the Covid-19 outbreak, and that the council will be taking all required measures to ensure another outbreak does not surface. A total of 1,907 persons have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccination in Naifaru so far, with 2,885 persons having received first doses.

5,295 samples have been taken from the island so far, of which results are pending for 64. Naifaru has observed a total of 921 positive cases so far, of which 914 patients have recovered. The island’s death toll is at four, with three active cases by sundown on Thursday.

On July 8, the government announced eases for those who have observed 14 days since receiving second vaccine jabs. As such, these individuals will be allowed to travel from islands where monitoring measures are not effective, with a negative PCR certification.

Residents of the capital city may travel to islands where the positivity rate is below five percent, without the need to quarantine if they hold a negative PCR certification.

Further, those traveling to islands where the positivity rate is between five and 10 percent, must observe a seven-day quarantine and provide release samples. 14 days of quarantine and release samples are required for travelers to islands where the positivity rate is above 10 percent.

As Eid-Al-Adha falls on July 20, a number of capital region residents will be traveling to outlying atolls in groups, as nine holidays will follow the auspicious day.
