A tourist has been discovered dead in the waters near southernmost Addu City.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) received the report at around 3:30pm on Thursday. The tourist was discovered dead in the waters north-east of Equator Village where he was staying at for the holidays.
The deceased, identified as a 44-year-old German national, was taken to Feydhoo island in Seenu atoll at around 4:30pm on Thursday.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the tourist had drowned while he was out snorkeling and that further investigations are underway.
This comes at a time the Ministry of Tourism, had on multiple occasions even previously, cautioned of such incidents related to snorkeling, diving and other water sports.
