The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted the coastal protection project of Haa Alif atoll Hoarafushi Airport’s western coast, to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The project was contracted to the company during a ceremony on Wednesday, joined by MP for Hoarafushi constituency Ahmed Saleem.

The contract was signed by the CEO of MTCC Adam Azim on behalf of the company, whereas Director General of the Planning Ministry, Fathmath Shana Farooq signed on behalf of the government.

Under the contract, MTCC is tasked with constructing a revetment wall along both sides of the airport runway measuring up to 2,861 meters, the scope of the project also includes the establishment of a drainage system.

The project is valued at MVR 90.5 million and is required to be completed in 360 days.

The Hoarafushi Airport was one of the many projects undertaken by MTCC, completed on 6 November 2020.

MTCC was also awarded a project to construct the island’s roads during April 2021, as well as a soil erosion protection project earlier.

Under the road development project, MTCC will be tarring 11 roads measuring 5,303 meters, planting a water drainage system as well as street lights.
