The number of persons fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in the Maldives has surpassed the 190,000-mark.

Latest statistics by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that of the 841 persons received vaccination doses across the Maldives on Tuesday, 318 were Greater Malé residents whereas 523 were residents of outlying atolls.

Tuesday’s vaccinations included 143 first doses and 698 second doses.

As such, 81 Greater Malé residents and 62 atoll residents were administered their first Covid-19 vaccination shots, with 237 Greater Malé residents and 461 atoll residents receiving second doses on Tuesday.

With this development, the total number of persons who have received first doses nationwide sits at 316,847 whereas 190,227 persons have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 so far.

There are currently two mobile teams and six vaccination centers in the capital region whereas 193 vaccination centers are stationed across outlying atolls.

The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1.

A total of seven vaccinations are currently approved for emergency use in the Maldives. The most recent vaccine approved for emergency use in the Maldives is AstraZeneca. On June 6 Maldives approved Spain’s Moderna vaccine as well as the Janssen vaccine manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson and Johnson. Earlier in May Maldives authorized Russia’s Sputnik V Vaccine in its battle against Covid-19. Maldives is also using the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination, Sinopharm as well as Pfizer vaccines in its inoculation programme.

The Minister of Health, Ahmed Naseem has revealed that Maldives is expected to receive an adequate supply of AstraZeneca vaccine doses between July 12 – 20.
