With an additional death reported on Tuesday, Maldives’ Covid-19 death toll has risen to 210.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that the patient, a 48-year-old Maldivian man, passed away on early Tuesday morning while being treated at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility (HMF).
While this pushes the country’s death toll to 210, 49 deaths have been reported thus far in June.
As per the statistics released by HPA, a total of 111 deaths from Covid-19 were confirmed between April 28 and June 5 with a record number of deaths seen in May; 88 deaths.
With daily Covid-19 cases soaring above 1,000 at the start of May, authorities responded by strengthening Covid-19 precautionary measures and guidelines in place. Since then cases have been declining gradually especially in the country’s Covid-19 epicenter, as well hospitalizations.
The island nation has reported a total of 73,482 Covid-19 cases since the first one was detected in March 2020. And with the 69,378 recoveries recorded, there are less than 4,000 active cases across the island nation currently with 27 patients receiving treatment at medical facilities.
The latest government daily figures also show that a total of 316,497 people had a first dose of a coronavirus vaccine while 188,788 had their second dose by Sunday.
