North-Maafannu constituency MP Imathiyaz Fahmy has been reappointed to the parliament’s committee on national security services or the 241 committee.
The change to the committee was announced at Monday’s parliament sitting.
While MP Fahmy was appointed to the committee to replace South-Henveiru MP Hussain Shaheem earlier this month, Shaheem has since been reappointed. Imthiyaz now replaces Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb.
With this change, the current members of the committee are:
- North-Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Aslam (committee chair),
- West-Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef (deputy chair),
- Hulhumale’ MP Ali Niyaz,
- North-Galolhu MP Eva Abdulla,
- Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Gafoor Moosa,
- Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef,
- Thimarafushi MP Abdulla Riyaz,
- Guraidhoo MP Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon,
- Hulhudhoo MP Ilyas Labeeb,
- Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam Mohamed,
- Vilingili MP Saud Hussain,
- Thulhaadhoo MP Hisaan Hussain, and
- North-Maafannu MP Imthiyaz Fahmy
The changes come as the 241 committee continues its inquiry into the security breach that led to an assassination attempt on Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed on May 6.
While the committee launched the inquiry on May 24, some main ruling party lawmakers and members have accused the government of interfering in their work.
However, committee Chair Aslam denied this at a press conference held on June 7.
While the ongoing session of the People's Majlis was extended until July 8, the committee is working to conclude their work before then.
