The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has lifted the monitoring status from Biledhoo island in Faafu atoll.

The island was placed under monitoring on May 19 following the detection of Covid-19 cases, with other safety measures implemented as well.

The monitoring status was lifted on June 20, after the successful containment of Covid-19 within the island.

With this, the Bilehdhoo island council announced eases to some coronavirus safety measures including resuming congregational prayers.

Those traveling out of the island are required to provide details to the council. Residents are still required to wear face masks and socially distance when out in public.

Maldives has confirmed 71,896 Covid-19 cases since March 2020. Until recently, majority of the cases were detected from the country’s congested Covid-19 epicenter capital Male’ City. However, cases reported from islands have been higher since June 16.
