People’s Majlis has on Wednesday approved the president’s decision to rename the Ministry of Environment as the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the decision on May 5, after dissolving Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology.
51 lawmakers voted in favour at Wednesday’s sitting, following a review by the government oversight committee. As per the report presented at the sitting, the committee reached a decision on the matter on May 25 at its third meeting.
The President’s Office said that the change was part of the president’s “efforts to improve and strengthen public services and ensure the delivery of the administration’s pledges”.
With the dissolution of the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technoxlogy, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology is mandated with undertaking the functions and responsibilities of the dissolved office.
The staff will also be transferred to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.
With the decision, President Solih appointed Aminath Shauna as the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Technology. She received parliamentary approval last week.
