A 27-year-old Maldivian man has died of Covid-19 complications in the Maldives.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that doctors at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility pronounced him dead at 6pm on Monday.
This has pushed the total number of Covid-19 deaths to have been reported in Maldives to 198, of which 149 have been reported during this ongoing year.
Maldives reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 37 deaths have been reported in June thus far.
With daily Covid-19 cases soaring above 1,000 into the beginning of May, authorities responded by strengthening Covid-19 precautionary measures and guidelines in place. Since then cases have been declining gradually with less than 300 new cases reported the last two days.
