Great improvements have been observed in the services being provided at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility, says the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The commission revealed this via Twitter, noting that a team of HRCM officials had conducted a visit to the facility on May 25. Afterwards the commission met with officials from the Ministry of Health, Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) as well as the Ministry of Islamic Affairs to discuss progress into the reform they proposed to the facility.
Great improvements to the facility services were unfolded during the discussions, including the addition of more staff to the facility and great progress in matters related to patients admitted there for treatment.
HRCM noted that the increase in staff at the facility has paved way for eases in treating hospitalized patients as well.
Further, the commission observed the facility to have made arrangements for patients to be triaged at other facilities before being brought into Hulhumalé Medical Facility.
The commission has highlighted that further efforts are underway to make more improvements to the facility’s services.
HRCM conducted a visit to the facility in late May for an evaluation due to the complaints received revolving around the issues at the facility.
A statement issued by the commission in connection to this noted that several concerns relating to issues at the facility had caught the commission’s attention, provoking the visit. Observations during the visit were shared with the relevant institutions back then, after which the facility was proposed to resolve a number of issues by the relevant authorities.
