A total of 726 tourist accommodation facilities are currently in operation across Maldives.

According to the latest statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism on Saturday, 424 guesthouses are operational with 7,710 tourist beds by Friday’s end.

Latest statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism revealed that the archipelago nation, a popular holiday destination among zealous travelers, currently has 47,420 operational tourist beds across the 726 tourist facilities.

154 resorts have resumed operations since the island nation reopened borders for international travel, with 35,640 beds.

Of the total facility-capacity eight resorts as well as 271 guesthouses and hotels are yet to resume operations.

By Friday’s end, Maldives tourist arrivals for the year had been pushed to a total of 437,995.

Of this, Maldives welcomed 92,103 visitors during January, 96,882 in February 2021, 109,585 in March and 91,200 during April. Thus far in May, Maldives has welcomed 48,225 visitors.

Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
